Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot in what officials describe as a targeted attack during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Kirk, a co-founder of the conservative group Turning Point USA, was a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called the incident “a political assassination” adding “This is a dark day for our state. It’s a tragic day for our nation.” Investigators are looking for a new person of interest in the case but had not made any arrests as of late Wednesday, according to a law enforcement source who was not authorized to speak publicly. The killing comes amid a rise in violent attacks against political figures across the U.S, spanning the political spectrum.
